Understand that every Old Testament act represented a spiritual and relational principle between God and man so that man would grow and govern creation according to God's plan.  God was teaching man to have an interaction with Him that was Spiritual from the heart and natural concerning management and the blessing.  Take a walk through "The Tithe Conversion" and watch as God takes out natural substance given from the heart and moves our giving into supernatural abundance, blessing, and skill as we bring Him into the operations of our work and finance simply by a heart felt act of obedience.  The act of tithing and giving opens us up to trust God in all things and allows us to partake in the advancement of the Gospel in the lives of others.
