The Mother Church

Understanding the landscape of church assemblies across the United States can become an overwhelming and exhausting task. Its estimated that there are around two thousand mainline denominations across the US, several thousand smaller denominational branches, and even more individualized church assemblies organized and managed at a local level. At the inception of America multitudes of pilgrims and puritans came to our shores with the idea of Biblical church reformation. Of course the idea of the reformation was to reform the local assembly to match the structures and understandings in the Biblical texts. Throughout the history of Protestantism God has raised up mighty men of faith who longed for the restoration of true church government. As these men birthed new understanding at the local assemblies inception it always seemed that the organization would overstretch itself and grow into the very thing the founders were against.

To many people the inception of large governmental church started when Rome created a National organization based on church hierarchy called the Roman Catholic Church. While this idea can be traced back to its origins of national Christianity in the west, the true religious form was set up and instituted as the Jewish people learned to practice tradition and hierarchy without an intimate relationship with God. Instead of understanding the principle God was trying to convey the Jewish people took on the pagan form of tradition and ritual. As an organization grows beyond its bounds of biblical jurisdiction it seems that it ends up replicating the same systems of government as the world.

With each passing generation the descendants are more in it for the practice than for a true relationship with God. When God sees men form massive organizations based on power, ritual, and denomination, he not only sees the mother but also all the children or the local assemblies birthed by the institution. It seems that the farther organizations veer off from the limits set forth in God’s structure the farther from God they actually get.

Hos 2:4-5 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they [be] the children of whoredoms. For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give [me] my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

Eze 16: 2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations

Rev 2:22-23 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
